Monday 10.7 : The Open…Is Here?!

Yep you read that right. The CrossFit Games Open is starting this coming week. If you are confused by the fact that we already had a 2019 CrossFit Games Open, you aren’t wrong! There are 2 Opens this year, a Spring and this coming one for Fall. They coincide with different Games years, the Spring being for this past 2019 Games that happened in July, and the Fall for the 2020 Games. If you are confused, don’t worry, read on and follow the links provided.

CrossFit changed the whole format of the CrossFit Games last year, with the Open being in the Fall now. If you are familiar with the Open and how we have done things here you aren’t in for that much different other than the time of year. If you are new at CrossFit Lando and/or have no idea what the CrossFit Games and the Open are, this link to read the official CrossFit website, then keep reading to see how it applies to Lando specifically.

How it Works
Every Thursday @ 8:00pm there is a special workout announced by CrossFit HQ. It is usually done from a live stream where CrossFit athletes do the workout as a first look for the entire world. Then we all have until Monday @ 8:00pm to do the workout and enter a score for an official CrossFit Games score and placing. The top athletes in the world from specific regions move on to more advanced rounds after the 5 weeks, while for the rest of us our watch is ended.

What you need to do is go the the official Games site and sign up. We will be officially registering CrossFit Lando soon, but you can sign up anytime. Then you get to come on Saturday for the next 5 weeks and throw down with your fellow Landos.

What do I mean by this? Well the Open is one of the most fun times for the CrossFit Lando community that you will have, and we have a lot of fun times. Every Saturday @ 9:00am, starting this Saturday, we will have a chance for everyone in the community to give the workout of that week a go. Your coaches will of course give you tips and ideas for the best way to go about the workout based on our own experience coaching and doing the workout. We will be doing an inter-Lando competition with your coaches drafting teams once everyone is signed up and super prizes and awards going to the winning team and members.

The idea is to give it your all and see where you are. If it’s your first year then it’s your first baseline with the Open. If it’s a return year then it’s your chance to compare to years past in the ultimate test. If you are questioning whether to sign up officially, well your one chance to workout on Saturday will be at 9am with the Open workout, so you might as well!

(There will be a Sweat workout @ 7:30am for those of you who just really can’t do bring yourself to do the Open).
